WHY VOLUNTEERING FEELS DIFFERENT IN 2026

I've been thinking about how volunteering feels different in this day and age.

And honestly, I think a big part of it comes down to just how many distractions we have now.

There's social media, our phones, constant news, endless content, events, work - it's like everything is competing for our attention at the same time. Everything feels magnified. And whether we realize it or not, we feel the weight of that.

So by default, something like volunteering gets pushed further and further back.

Not because people don't care.

But because everything else is louder.

And I think just recognizing that is important.

Because once you're aware of it, you can actually make a conscious decision to bring it back to the forefront.

At the same time, I don't think this shift is only a negative.

I actually think there's a real opportunity here.

Because if everything in the world is more amplified now, then volunteering and service can be amplified too. It doesn't have to get lost - it can actually become something bigger, more visible, and more integrated into how we live.

And that's why this matters.

Because at the end of the day, service and impact are everything.

How we treat each other matters.

How we show up for our communities matters.

And in a world that's constantly pulling our attention in different directions, choosing to give your time and energy to others becomes even more meaningful.

That's a big part of the thinking behind LOCAL.

Not just creating a place to find volunteer opportunities, but building something that fits into the way people actually live today - something that brings community service forward instead of letting it fall behind.

Something that makes it social.

Something that makes it engaging.

Something that people actually want to be a part of.

Because volunteering isn't less important now.
